This council serves a community of some 2000 people. In additionto the usual functions of a Parish Council, Wylam owns and administers a local nature reserve at Wylam Haughs amd a Railway Museum at the Falcon Centre, reflecting the village's links with railway heritage, including the birthplace of George Stephenson.
