•  19 August 2019Matt Stokes - Soundmirror Exhibition: Daily 20th July - 22nd Sept 2019. In Summer 2019, Museums Northumberland is thrilled to be sharing some of Northumberland’s most extraordinary hidden stories with you. Over the past year we have been working closely with artist Matt Stokes to explore and reveal hidden stories from our unique Northumberland museum places, collections and people. Through this major commission, Stokes’ research has drawn out narrative threads that tie Museums Northumberland’s stories together in unexpected ways. Soundmirror: Discover the incredible story of the orchid grown and named for local footballing legend Jackie Milburn at Woodhorn Museum. Stokes’ uncovered this wonderful story in a collection of Milburn family memorabilia which was gifted to Woodhorn Museum by Jackie’s son, Jack Milburn. However, both the story and the orchid then disappeared into complete obscurity; until now. Membership is required for entry on to the museum site. Maximum of £7.00 for 12 months membership.
