Leisure Buddies aims to help people who for example may have lost confidence due to illness or disability in their life. We aim to enable people who may need a buddy, maybe just to go for a coffee once a week, visit a garden centre, go bowling or perhaps a visit to the cinima etc. The project is being run by St. John Ambulance, in Berwick and is funded by the Northern Rock Foundation. People registered with us who need a Leisure Buddy Volunteer, may be adults of any age. They could be physically disabled, recovering from an illness, or perhaps socially isolated for whatever reason.
All Leisure Buddies undergo first aid training and CRB checks.
