Voices of Stannington Sanatorium
100 years ago, 200,000 people in the British Isles were suffering from the highly infectious disease tuberculosis and 70,000 were dying each year. Stannington was the first children's sanatorium in the country, opened in 1907 by the Duke of Northumberland. No pre booking required

Bide-A-Wee Cottage Gardens and Nursery

A farmer, custodian of the countryside & carer of injured birds
Featured in January 2017 The Northumbrian magazine, this organic farm is important to a huge variety of wild birds, the success due to hundreds of hours of extra work, planting a mile of hedging & many trees. Peter Middleton will be bringing along a very talkative raven and a barn owl. No pre booking required

The Moorland Spirit Company
Situated at Hepple a short distance from Rothbury, this Northumberland gin making company has won top honours at global spirits competitions and won a double gold medal at the San Fransisco World Spirit Competition in 2017. The company is engaged in one of the most ambitious juniper restoration and propagation projects in the UK. According to the RHS this juniper is only found in 2 UK locations. The company is situated near 4 of the cleanest rivers in the UK. No pre booking required

Catcleugh Reservoir
Tony Evans is a volunteer at the Northumberland National Park and has a special interest in the reservoir and in particular the men, women and children who lived on site during it's construction around 120 years ago. Hard manual labour, 12 hour days for a wage of 4 per week. No pre booking required

On track for a railway revival: The Aln Valley Railway
In 1996 Stuart Manley (Barter Books situated in the old railway station at Alnwick) came up with the idea of trying to revive this old railway line. He is a steam railway enthusiast and rounded up a group of like-minded enthusiasts. That is how it all began and now after years of planning and hard work, the completion date is near. No pre booking required
