INTRODUCTION
After studying Economics at Bristol University, I returned to Northumberland to farm in 1980.
I am Vice Chairman of an agriculture co-operative, Tyne Grain, and a Director of a Grain Marketing Company, Grainco Ltd, which markets in excess of 1 million tonnes of grain per annum. Also I am a Director of Tees Valley Biofuels.
I have had two spells of a District Councillor, 1992 to 1999 and 2003 to the present day. During that time I have held several senior posts. I have been Chairman of Housing and Environmental Health. Chairman of the Council Services Scrutiny Committee, and I am now Deputy Leader of Castle Morpeth Borough Council.
I believe that it is important to be active in the Community and to represent the interest of the residents of my division, especially those most in need of my help. I have gained a reputation as an advocate of rural issues.
