In 1995 the County appointed Don Yeomans from the Benfield Bowling Club as Youth Development Officer.

The Northumberland Bowling Association together with the North Tyneside Borough Council have established a School  of Excellence which has sought to gain accredited status with the EBA and EIBA. All Coaches are provided by the English Bowls Coaching Scheme (Northumberland). Coaching Courses are run indoors at The Parks IBC and outdoors at the Benfield  Bowling Club.

 In the Summer months Junior Courses are run from 10.a.m. to 12 noon every Saturday mornings at Benfield B.C. and in the winter on Sunday mornings at The Parks Indoor Bowling Club.

All Coaches operating at the School of Excellence have to hold an up to date Enhanced Criminal Record Certificate.

Whilst the cousrse were originally set up to provide coaching for the young and talented bowlers of North Tynside, the School of Excellence is available to any young male or female, under 25 and any boy or girl of North Tyneside, Newcastle, Blythe Valley, Wansbeck, Hexham Alnwick and other areas of Northumberland.
