Cramlington Writers Group

Cramlington Writers’ Group was started in 1995. It is an informal, friendly group that meets fortnightly on Mondays from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Twyford Meeting Room, Twyford Close, Parkside Grange, Cramlington. We have stimulating workshops led by professional writers and members of the group.

In the past we have embarked on a variety of projects outside the sessions, such as holding a yearly weekend writing workshop at the Holiday Inn which we open up to the public. Members have attended a weekend course about writing for ‘soaps.’ We submitted the first episode of a radio comedy for the Alfred Bradley Bursary Award.

In 2001 we obtained a Lottery Grant and published two thousand copies of a community book called ‘Nearly Famous’ which was very well received. In 2008 we published our own group anthology called ‘Write Light’ and entered it into the ‘Writers’ Magazine competition.

Some of our members have had their own poetry and books published, stories read out on local radio and articles/letters printed in newspapers and magazines. Others come along because they simply enjoy writing and wish to meet with like-minded people. We support each other in any way we can, giving encouragement, advice or constructive criticism when requested.

Our annual fee is £10. Then there is an additional £1.50 subscription for each session attended, to help with the hire of the venue.

Tea or coffee is available. Price 50p.
