BRAG is a registered charity affiliated to the British Horse Society, covering the areas of North Tyneside, Newcastle, Blyth, Wansbeck, Gateshead, South Tyneside and some areas of South Northumberland and Sunderland. BRAG are concerned with the safety of riders, and seek to create, maintain and protect rights of way. BRAG works with landowners, local authorities and various countryside organisations to:
- Preserve and protect rights of way
- Create new and safe off-road routes by working with other agencies to create bridleway links on derelict land or development areas.
- Revive lost routes.
- Ensure adequate provision is made for the safe passage of horse riders where new roads are under construction or existing roads are modified.
- Encourage public awareness of the needs of riders and the hazards they face, such as traffic, dogs, fly-tipping etc.
- Promote safe and responsible riding.
- Ensure that routes are properly maintained, have a satisfactory surface, are clearly signposted and kept free from obstructions.
In return for yearly subscriptions BRAG members receive:
- Three newsletters a year
- Subsidised pleasure rides
- Support and assistance from the committee with any problems.
