The Club
The club was started by Dennis Howe and Philip Green, in May 2007. They had both been medal-winning archers for many years, as past members of Ponteland Archers. Allendale (in its name alone!) seemed to cry out for an archery club and initial taster sessions drew in 48 people, 31 of whom are now club members.
When do we meet?
We meet on Sunday afternoons, weather permitting, on the Allendale Sports field site on Station Road, Catton from 1.30 till 4.00pm During summer months we also meet there on Thursday evenings 7.00 to 9.30pm. Thanks to a partnership with Hexham QEHS, winter evening sessions are held in the sports hall at the High School on Wednesdays from 7.00 to 9.00pm. Our members, most of whom were beginners in 2007, are adult and junior, men and women.
What does it cost?
Membership costs £45 (seniors) and £25 ( Juniors) a year, and this gives membership of the GNAS enabling members to shoot at any GNAS club as a visitor, to take part in County competitions and gives insurance cover. This takes £38 from the adult and £18 from the membership fee, so the club only took £8 from its members in its inaugural season 2007-08. We are grateful to Allendale Parish Council, Allendale Sports Club, Allendale Lions, Tynedale District Council, and Awards for All who have all contributed to the club, allowing it to purchase additional equipment for members' use and, thereby, keeping the fees the lowest in the north east.
How do I join?
We welcome experienced archers and beginners. If you're a beginner, come along for a free taster at one of our regular sessions to see whether or not our sport is for you!
